Book Tour & Giveaway ~ Demon Rising by DeAnna Browne #Urban #Fantasy

Demon
Rising
by
DeAnna Browne
Genre:
Adult Urban Fantasy

Some sacrifices cost more than death…

Thirty years ago, dark magicians unleashed new power on the earth fueled by demons. Governments toppled, millions died and magicians ended up on top of the food chain.

Twenty-four-year-old Becca survives these dangerous times by relying on her wits, her
fists, and the limited goodwill of her boss, a local crime lord. When news comes of a fire back home and the family she left behind dead, she realizes her dark past has finally caught up to her.

On the hunt for her missing sister, she must rely on Darion, a treacherous ex-boyfriend with ties to the local coven for back-up. Problem is he’s a pyromancer that can’t be trusted, especially
with her heart. Will she escape the sticky web of treachery and deceit with her sister and her heart, or will she sacrifice it all to save another?

Becca’s forced to navigate a dangerous web of deceit and must decide what she’s willing to sacrifice to save her sister.

Excerpt:

The tattoo on Becca’s neck prickled as she walked the crowded path to work. Searching for the possible source of magic, she continued forward, with coffee in one hand and the other resting by the knife at her waist.

She moved amid a throng of people, shuffling along the worn walkways. Heavy clouds were scattered across the sky, while dilapidated buildings surrounded them, a haunting reminder of what once was. A young man pushed past Becca, dressed in blue coveralls. He must be heading to the line. The tattoo on Becca’s neck prickled as she walked the crowded path to work. Searching for the possible source of magic, she continued forward, with coffee in one hand and the other resting by the knife at her waist.

The warehouse traveled up twenty stories high, the tallest building in town with a large fountain in front. It must have once been a beauty. Now the fountain, covered in graffiti, ran dry and the boarded up windows could barely keep the wind out.
A familiar, lanky guard stood watch on the side of the road. Could he have been the source of the magic warming her tattoo? He scanned the crowd with a demon dog at his side, a German shepherd with unnaturally large black eyes.

Turning forward, she let her dark hair fall into her face, not wanting to draw his attention. She stepped past the guard undisturbed. She could handle herself with the guards, but her boss, Nikko, constantly nagged her about keeping a low profile.
The crowds pressed together, and a large man knocked into Becca’s side, tripping her. She stumbled, spilling the remains of her coffee all over her black jeans. Someone swore as the crowd surged forward, and she stepped to the side.

At five-foot-five, she was on the small side, but strong enough to cause pain and scrappy enough to avoid it when she could. The crowds weren’t her problem, though. That would be the presence behind her, causing her tattoo to burn.

Lily

see her for dust.

A

Melissa Foster
Releasing Oct 4, 2017
World Literary Press

Do you believe in fate?

World-renowned mountain climber and nature photographer Ty
Braden never believed in second dates, much less heart-pounding,
steal-his-breath love. But that was before a trip to Saint-Luc, where he met
funny, strong, and entrancingly beautiful Aiyla Bell, a ski instructor and
fellow photographer whose hopes and dreams, and love of the outdoors, aligned
perfectly with his—and whose kisses alone turned him inside out.

After spending five magical days and four sweet, soulful
nights falling in love, Aiyla couldn’t imagine a day without Ty. But when he
asked her to go with him on his next assignment, his reputation for having
women at his beck and call stopped her from upending the life she’d worked so
hard to create.

Months later fate steps in when a chance encounter brings Ty
and Aiyla together for a five-day wilderness event held in the Colorado
Mountains. Their deep, passionate connection is stronger than ever, and Ty is
bound and determined not to lose her again. But when tragedy strikes and their
worlds are turned upside down, their love faces the truest test of all.

Quinn sat in the passenger seat of Luke’s sleek, dark gray sports car, finally able to breathe for the first time in hours. The unease that had clutched at her chest, tightening like a vise with each faked smile and passing minute she’d sat in the Crooked Angel, was finally loosening, allowing her the luxury of a steady inhale/exhale without having to hide the truth from the people who were closest to her. She was in Luke’s car, sitting right beside him. His body was right there. Warm. Safe. Close enough for her to reach out and run her hand over his bare forearm, his fingers that were callused in some places, soft in others.
            There. Easy. Breathe…
Luke pulled into the parking lot beside her apartment building, quieting the engine without pulling the keys from the ignition. His gaze moved covertly over their surroundings, mirroring the one Quinn had just sent over the adjacent parking spaces, the brightly illuminated walkway connecting the parking lot with the apartment building, the potential spots where someone might lurk or hide.
“Looks clear.” It was the first thing he’d said since he’d quietly told Isabella and Hollister he was going to take her home, then paid Kennedy for the beers they didn’t drink.
Quinn nodded in agreement. “Mmm hmm.”
Heeding the detectives’ advice not to dawdle, they both got out of the car, Luke locking the doors with a click-CLICK of a button on his key fob before walking her over the paved path leading to the front door of her building. The tension that had made a playground out of her shoulders faded with each step, and she and Luke made their way over the threshold, into the elevator, and down the tastefully carpeted hallway until finally, they were in her apartment.
“Thank you for bringing me home.” Heat climbed Quinn’s cheeks as she grew aware of how very alone they were, standing there in her dusky foyer with nothing but the soft light filtering in from the one bulb she always left lit over the kitchen sink. But Luke was the only person she didn’t have to hide anything from. The only person who could get her to breathe. The only person she could be truthful with.
And the truth was, she wanted him.
It seemed completely contradictory that her body should respond in such a primal, greedy way when her brain was a jumbled mess. That was just the thing, though. Her thoughts were a mess around her friends. They were a mess when she tried to work, and they were definitely a mess whenever she remembered the kidnapping. The only time her mind wasn’t on overdrive was when she thought of Luke, with his hand on her rib cage and his breath in her ear, as steady as a heartbeat.
God, she wanted his touch so badly, she ached.
“Do you want to talk about what’s going on with you?” he asked, his eyes steady on hers even through the shadows of her foyer.
“Honestly?” She stepped toward him and shook her head. “No.”
“Quinn—”
“Please, just stop. I don’t want to talk about the other day. I don’t even want to think about it.”
Luke opened his mouth, likely to argue, but she cut him off before he could say so much as a syllable. “Look, I’m not stupid, okay? I know I can’t ignore things entirely. I’m not foolish or flighty enough to think I can magically make the truth into something it’s not. But you asked me what I need, and right now I need to not remember what happened, just for a little while.”
A pause opened between them. Quinn’s heart raced so rapidly she was certain he had to be able to register the constant thump-thump-thump from where he stood.
Finally, he said, “What else do you need?”
For a question that had the potential to be so complicated, her answer was shockingly simple, and even though she knew it made her vulnerable, she didn’t hesitate.
“Just for tonight, I need to feel something other than scared. I need to remember what it’s like to feel good.” She moved closer, until she could feel his exhale coast over her cheek. Yes. This. I need this. “So please, can you stay for a while and make me feel right again?”

Just as I was pushing the eggs out of the skillet onto the plates, he walked in through the front door wearing jeans, boots, and a long-sleeved gray shirt. His hair was tied back, and his beard had been trimmed back to his jaw line. He looked delicious.
“Morning!” I set our plates on the table, and he looked up from slipping out of his boots to my grinning face.
“I figured you hadn’t eaten, so I made some for you too.” I smiled, and felt slightly awkward with him still standing in the doorway, staring at me. His blue eyes were lit with uncontrolled emotion, for once. I read what was in them without using my powers. I walked over to the sink to wash my hands, not wanting to see that look on his face, knowing well that he didn’t want to do anything about it. I really didn’t blame him. Like I told him last night, there was only so much a heart could take. His had taken too much over his lifetime.
I hadn’t heard him walking toward me until he gripped my arm and spun me around. His hands moved down to my waist and hoisted me up onto the counter. My eyes were wide as he maneuvered himself between my legs, my eyes on his while his lips descended onto my own.

But maybe it’s because someone is watching…

I step inside and gasp.  The space is filled with candles.  Their lights flicker,  casting shadows on the walls.  Some tumblers are bigger, filled with shells, others are just small enough to hold the pillars.  My heart jumps at the thought of Alex.  Who else would have done this?  How?  He can’t be here.  He’s in Miami.  Chicago is not his kind of town.  Or is it?
I take a few tentative steps inside and discover the flow of candles is endless, continuing from the main room to the bedroom.  The air smells of candle wax and salty ocean breeze.  I walk in slowly, making my way through the space.  The bedroom comes partially into view; it’s completely filled with candles and glowing in their light.
I make my way in and the whole room is on display.  A huge bed is surrounded by flickering lights, a chair tucked into the corner by the floor-to-ceiling window with a view of Michigan Avenue.  Alex is sitting in the chair, legs spread wide, elbows on the armrests, hands forming a dome, with index fingers touching his lips.  He looks at me quizzically, capturing my reaction.
I exhale and visibly relax, his mere presence lowering my stress level by several degrees.
“Hi!” I say in breathless voice, suddenly feeling overcome by the emotions of the day, energy leaving me and the warmth from the wine I had over dinner coming back to claim me.  I’m ready to give up control for the night, let him be in charge.  I’m way too tired.
My eyes shine with alcohol glaze, or maybe the unshed tears I kept at bay all day long.  I step towards him and extend my arms.  He’s on his feet and wrapping me in a hug instantaneously.  We inhale each other and stand wordlessly in the middle of countless glimmering candles.
Alex finds my lips and kisses me gently, fingers skimming over my cheeks, tucking a loose, curly strand of hair away.  Pulling back for just a second to look at my face, he places a gentle kiss on my forehead and tucks me under his chin.  I’m so small against him, both physically and emotionally.  He is the ever-in-control one.  Finally, I feel safe today.
We spend minutes engulfed in each other’s embrace.  Candles flicker near and far, on every surface of the suite, creating dancing shadows on the walls.
Finally, I look up at him, feeling calmed and grounded.
