Author Interview

1.      Describe a typical writing day. Are you a morning, afternoon, or night-owl writer?

– I’m an anytime writer, actually! I do prefer afternoons, mostly because I’m not a morning person and need a while to fully wake up, but I can write in the mornings, afternoons, or even the middle of the night, if needed!

2. Can you tell us about your current work-in-progress?

– I’m finishing up a sports continuity with three writer friends – we’re writing about three brothers, all sports heroes, who are coming to terms with a Big Family Secret. It’s been really fun to write!

3. What inspires you when you’re writing?

– I don’t really wait for inspiration, but I’ll never say no to a bowl of M&Ms, my favorite candle (right now it’s salted caramel), and some white-noise-music (usually light jazz or classical).

4. What’s your favorite item on your writing desk?

– My desk has so many favorite things! There are the owl bookends, the chicken creamer that holds pens, my planner (I adore my planner), the pictures of RadioMan and bebe….they’re all special to me!

5. What’s your favorite genre and why?

– Contemporary romance, because it can be so many different things – funny and comical, deep and angsty, friends to lovers, secret babies…all my favorite things can take place in a contemporary romance. Which is why I love reading (and writing) it!

6. Any advice you have for a blossoming author?

 – Just write! Follow your muse, set some writing goals, and write something that keeps you interested. Finish it. Then put it away and start a new book. Rinse. Repeat.

Terror by Eamonn Hickson #Thriller #Suspense

On Tour with Prism Book Tours

by Eamonn Hickson

Adult Thriller

Paperback & ebook, 336 pages
April 29th 2017

Have you ever felt that society consciously tries to undermine you?

In a society where everyone strives for growth, where everyone tries to build towards the heavens, there are some who wish to bring it plummeting down.

Terror is a thriller in which three people from different walks of life find a common enemy in the contemporary world. Yet, unlike most, they decide to do something about it.

Following his best friend’s death, military man Milton Haynes is forced to see a psychiatrist while he challenges his dishonourable discharge. Ally Winston, one year after being viciously assaulted, struggles to slot into the life her father has laid out for her, while Nestor Frings returns to Boston to find his parents have sold their home due to financial issues.

The three initially voice their pains through non-violent means, however, they soon find their efforts futile. In a world where outsiders are considered dangerous and are not to be trusted, it will be the insiders who do the damage. Follow Milton, Ally and Nestor as they come to, what they perceive to be, the inevitable conclusion: they must commit a terror attack.

Praise for the Book

“Eamonn Hickson brings the fascinating, dingy, and complex streets of Boston alive in his new novel TERROR, a probing novel of survival in the modern world. TERROR is a masterful portrait of the hard decisions and harder lives that must be lived during a dark time in American history – the present.” — Self-Publishing Review

Reviews of the Author's Other Work

“…a suspense thriller with a fascinating version of heaven versus hell that lingers after closing the pages.”

“Eamonn Hickson writes a vivid story of a war between angels and demons, and Heaven and Hell. The story captivates the audience as you witness deception, lies, and Heavenly Hosts that are working for the enemy.”

“Find yourself enmeshed in a roller coaster ride to a mind-numbing conclusion that will remain with you many a day to come.”

Author Interview

1. Describe a typical writing day. Are you a morning, afternoon, or night-owl writer?

I am the epitome of a night-owl. My brain doesn’t work before midday and it only starts flicking up through the gears once it gets dark outside. Also, because the sun sets quite late during summer days where I am, my brain is an even slower starter during the summertime.

2. Can you tell us about your current work-in-progress?

I’m currently working on the sequel to Terror. While there is a sense of finality for a number of story arcs in Terror, some characters just need more time. Ideas are a dime a dozen, but I think a writer must trust his or her characters when they demand more airtime. The sequel is based in Boston again, for the most part, and will include characters who were affected by the events in the original. Some characters from Terror will still be front and center in the sequel, and we’ll get to see their longer-term reaction to their choices in the original… it’s hard to write about a sequel without throwing in some spoilers!

3. What inspires you when you’re writing?

I need music! Mostly instrumental music or songs with very few lyrics. I don’t purposely choose a playlist for a novel; whatever I’m listening to at the time (not all current stuff) blends into the writing process until I cannot continue with the writing unless the right music is playing. Also, I like to read a few lines from my favorite authors every now and again before writing for a source of inspiration.

4. What’s your favorite item on your writing desk?

I’m gonna cheat slightly here… if that’s okay? It’s my writing area itself. While I love having the necessities close by (dictionary, thesaurus and motivational quotes), my desk and the wood-paneled wall are the most important. I pin sheets of paper to an 8x5 ft. area when I’m writing a novel or novella. You could find anything on these sheets: plot ideas, character descriptions, things to remember, writing tips, important character thoughts, to-do lists, a character’s shopping list, timeline for my own writing, weekly plans, and so on.

5. What’s your favorite genre and why?

I love reading and writing thrillers that encompass elements of mystery and suspense. I think it’s related to my fondness for puzzles and riddles. To create, to craft, to weave a storyline together, one with seemingly countless possibilities and outcomes, to put the answer in front of the reader without them noticing, to give the answer in the question, to turn cogs in a reader’s mind, to give them a chuckle when they see how clear it was all along—that’s why I love thrillers.

6. Any advice you have for a blossoming author?

It’s a clichĂ© at this stage: you might have the best idea, you might be the most fluent of writers, you might have an incredible work rate, but no one can ever read a novel that doesn’t leave an author’s head. It’s said many bestsellers are left on a person’s shelf at home or on their laptop, but I believe there are more in people’s brain. If you dream of writing a novel, yet you haven’t done it yet, you literally have nothing to lose at this stage. Will your writing dreams be crushed if you write and publish a novel? Most definitely not. Regret things you’ve done, don’t regret things you’ve never done.

(Shattered Realms #2)
by Melissa Wright

Young Adult Sci-Fi, Fantasy

Paperback & ebook

Coming 2018

Mackenzie Scott is trapped in another realm, but that’s the least of her problems. Magic runs through her veins, and even now she can feel herself changing. She’s managed to help her brother, but in exchange, she’s turning into one of them. Worse, Mackenzie’s not just a monster. She’s their queen.

Hunter had one job: open the gateway between worlds to keep his realm alive. He hadn’t counted on betrayal, or being saved by a human girl. And he’d never guessed he couldn’t trust his own king. Now he’s snared in an unwinnable catch, and his only choice is to leave the one thing that’s ever mattered to him to save a world he can never belong to.

Separated by realms, Mackenzie and Hunter must save the other’s world. But the divide isn’t the only thing working against them. Beasts and men fight a complicated battle that pits Hunter and Mackenzie against those they’re trying to protect, and the clock is ticking.

Guest Post: What Sort of Monster Are You?

QUEEN OF IRON AND BLOOD, book two in the Shattered Realms series, takes place in a world of monsters. Check out the exclusive excerpt below, and use the Chimera Generator to create your own!

A figure waited on the ledge above him, silent, dark wings still. Hunter could feel her though, the ancient energy recharged like the rest of his world. “I cannot leave them sleeping,” he told her. “The risk is too great.” If Malkyn killed Hunter, if he were not able to return, these new Iron Bound would never be awakened. It would be an eternal wasting away, a thousand-year massacre.

The virago made a noise like the purr of a horse, though her face was something more human than mare. In all fairness, though, she was more beast than anything else. “Your queen can bear it, she thinks,” the virago said.

Hunter turned to look up at the virago, her dark mane swept back over the slick black of her shoulders. From his vantage point, Hunter couldn’t help but think this was the last thing some of the Iron Bound had ever seen—sleek fur on a winged beast, her curved talons shining like onyx overhead. Hunter nodded. “I believe she can—if it is to be done at all, Mackenzie has the strength for it.” But it would not be safe. She would not be safe.

The virago brought herself to her full height. “Your queen does not stand alone.”
